The Minority Outreach Program works with minority individuals to address specific concerns, is actively involved with community organizations and churches in order to educate people regarding mental illness and to assist with referrals. The Minority Outreach Program takes an active role in support and educational groups such as Minority Outreach Family-to-Family Support Group, usually held at a community center or church. Minority Outreach also provides advocacy both in the system and individually. The Creating a Circle of Caring program provides training for clergy members and churches. Contact: NAMI at 419/243-1119.
Providing education about mental illness. The goal of Positive Connections is to help children who have mentally ill parents/caregivers understand their parents' illness by providing education about mental illness, peer support and one-to-one mentoring relationships with a caring adult role model. "Ayuda", which means 'to help' in Spanish is a collaborative effort between NAMI and Adelante, Inc. to provide outreach/education regarding mental health and mental illness to the Hispanic community of Lucas County. "Ayuda" provides it's clientele with transportation services as well as assistance with community referrals. Contact NAMI at 419/243-1119.
