Latino Leadership Initiative

Latinos often experience disparities in access to mental health treatment and the quality of treatment received. This inequality puts Latinos at a higher risk for more severe and persistent forms of mental health conditions. In addition to our new Latino Mental Health Forum, we provide a Spanish-speaking support group, and outreach that works hard to help Latinos:

  • Gain information and understanding about mental health and medical diagnoses
  • Overcome privacy concerns
  • Break down language barriers by seeking and providing Spanish-speaking resources
  • Understand and address culturally-specific concerns for treatment such as natural medicine and remedies, faith, and spirituality

The Latino Leadership Initiative is a group of volunteers and professionals who are passionate about mental wellness and busting stigma in the Latino population. If you are interested in learning more, please contact Sonya Quinn at squinn@namitoledo.org or 419-243-1119.

African American Leadership Initiative

Lack of information and misconceptions surrounding mental health issues prevent many members of the African American community from getting the help and support they need. In addition to our annual African American Mental Health Forum, every day we’re working hard to increase mental health awareness and help individuals:

  • Learn how to recognize the signs and symptoms of mental illnesses
  • Discover how to talk about mental health and decrease stigma
  • Find and access mental health services, supports, and resources
  • Understand the medical and biological aspects of mental illness
